When the Torah says that man was made בצלם אלוקים, "in God's image," it was talking about our power to create just like God (however you take it to mean) creates. And how does God create? With speech.

Speaking is a miraculous transaction and a decisively human power. What is creative writing if not saying what needs to be said, and transmitting ideas to the world through words?

Cadabra is an intensive 2-week creative writing workshop

for intellectually curious and motivated Jewish teens in, entering, or exiting grades 9-12 who are committed to the art of creative writing and to becoming more productive writers and insightful thinkers.

 

The workshop will provide a dynamic and supportive virtual environment for students to refine their craft and build community with like-minded peers who share both their Jewish heritage and passion for writing.

 

Guided by workshop leaders and guest speakers, students will read short stories, poems, and essays to use as inspiration for their own work and challenge themselves to think critically about the intersection of their Jewish and creative identities.
